Privacy policy

Neatrip is an app for planning trips: it keeps your bookings and plans in one timeline and lets you share a trip with the people you travel with. This policy explains what we collect, why, who else handles it, and what you can do about it. In short: we keep what you put into Neatrip so the app can show it back to you and the people you share with. We don't sell it, we don't show ads, and we don't track you.
Who we are
Neatrip is run by Modus Transform Ltd ("we", "us"), the data controller for your information. You can reach us about privacy at privacy@neatrip.app.
What we collect
Your account. Your name and email address. If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your name and email. If you sign up with an email and password, your password is handled by Google's Firebase Authentication and we never see it. We also keep your home currency, which trip totals are shown in.
Your trips. Everything you add: trip names, places, dates, descriptions and cover photos, and each plan and booking, with whatever details you enter, such as times, addresses, reference numbers, seat numbers, phone numbers and email addresses for hotels, restaurants or friends, costs, payments and loyalty points. You decide what goes in; none of it is required except a trip's name.
Ticket codes. When you add a ticket by scanning it, or from a photo, screenshot or PDF, the app reads the code on your phone. We keep the code's contents with the plan (and a small picture of the code if it can't be redrawn exactly). Your photos and PDFs themselves are never uploaded. Some codes, such as boarding passes, contain your name and booking reference.
Sharing. When you invite someone, we keep their email address and the level you chose until they accept or decline. Everyone on a trip can see the names and email addresses of its other members.
Places you look up. When you pick a place, we look up its address, and for some plans its position on a map, and keep them in your account so they work offline. These are kept for you alone, not shared with the trip.
What we don't collect
We don't collect your location, contacts, payment card details or browsing activity. There's no advertising or analytics in the app. The camera is used only while you're scanning a ticket, and the app only sees the photos and files you choose to add. Your light or dark appearance setting stays on your phone.
How we use it
Only to run Neatrip: to show your trips on your devices, keep them in sync and available offline, share them with the people you invite, look up places, flights and exchange rates for you, send account emails such as verifying your address or resetting your password, and keep the service secure and within its limits. We don't use your trips for anything else, and we don't sell or rent your information to anyone.
Under UK data protection law, we use your information because we need it to provide the service you signed up for, and, for security and preventing misuse, because of our legitimate interest in keeping Neatrip safe and working.
Who sees your information
People you share a trip with see it at the level you choose. Viewers see the plans only: no bookings, references or tickets, and friends' and family's names and phone numbers are hidden. Travelers and Editors see the bookings and tickets too; costs are shown to Editors, and to Travelers only if the trip's owner allows it. Anything you mark as private is seen only by you.
Service providers handle information for us, only to provide Neatrip:
- Google Firebase stores your account and trips and runs our server code, in London, UK. Cover photos you upload are stored in the United States.
- Google Maps Platform receives what you type when searching for a place, and the places and routes we look up for you. The map inside the app is drawn by Google, under Google's own privacy policy.
- AeroDataBox receives a flight number and date when you look up a flight.
- Unsplash receives the place names you search for cover photos, and serves the photos you see, so it sees your device's internet address when they load.
- Microsoft hosts our email, so it holds anything you send to our support or privacy addresses.
None of these receive your name or email address along with a lookup. Exchange rates come from ExchangeRate-API, which receives no information about you.
We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect people's safety.
Where it's kept
Most of your information is stored in the UK. Cover photos are stored in the United States, and our providers may process some information elsewhere. Where information leaves the UK, it is protected by the safeguards UK law requires, such as the UK–US data bridge or standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
Until you delete it. Deleting a plan, booking or ticket removes it; deleting a trip removes everything in it, including its cover photo. Deleting your account removes your profile and every trip you own, and takes you off trips others have shared with you, along with anything you marked private there. You can delete your account in the app, under your account, or see how to delete your account.
We keep daily backups of the database, in the UK, so we can recover from mistakes or failures. Anything you delete stays in them for up to 7 days before it's gone for good. Our servers keep technical logs, which can include your account ID, for up to 30 days. Ticket codes are never deleted automatically after a trip; they stay until you delete them.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to receive it in a portable form. Most of this you can do yourself in the app; for anything else, email privacy@neatrip.app and we'll reply within a month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or to the data protection authority where you live.
Children
Neatrip isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change how we handle your information, for example if we add advertising, we'll update this page and its date, and tell you in the app before any significant change takes effect.
